Expand your knowledge of effective measures to prevent screw slackening or self-loosening—explained clearly and concisely.
The videos demonstrate how these measures work, provide examples of their use, and explain the technical concepts in an easy-to-understand way.
Elastic Resilience and Residual Spring Force
How secure is a bolted joint really—when the residual spring force is absent?
The initial preload is merely a snapshot—what is truly decisive for bolt safety is the residual spring force, which remains after embedding, relaxation, and temperature cycles.
DIN 267-26 clearly defines this safety-critical reserve using the residual spring force value after a standardized unloading stroke.
Our video shows how the residual spring force is tested—from the test load to the evaluation of Fᵣ and its characteristic curve—and how NSK washers prevent self-acting loosening by rotation and provide multifunctional support for maximum operational safety.
NSK-E Product Video
Just how energy-efficient and safe is your electrical contact gland—if contact pressure and resistance to loosening aren’t guaranteed over the long term?
This video demonstrates why energy efficiency and the safety of electrical contact glands are inextricably linked. Increasing current densities require sustained contact pressure, thermal stability, and verified resistance to loosening.
NSK-E and NSK-EL combine high residual spring force, reliable anti-loosening protection, protection of mating surfaces, and a one-piece design—to reduce installation clearance—all in a single system.
Instead of traditional “either-or” solutions, a multifunctional securing element is needed to ensure permanently stable, energy-efficient electrical connections.
Junker Vibration Test
When does a bolted joint begin to loosen on its own?
As long as the elastic resilience is high enough, the clamping force remains stable—despite embedding, vibrations, and temperature changes. If the resilience decreases, the clamping force falls below the required level and the loosening process can begin.
This is exactly where our multifunctional NSK washers come into play:
NSK washers combine preventive and reactive functional reliability in a single component. They increase elastic resilience, delay the onset of loosening, and reliably prevent self-acting loosening by rotation even when the clamping force has already decreased.
FV5 Phase Model
Accept the loss of preload—or proactively plan the life cycle of the bolted joint using the FV5 phase model?
The integrated FV-5 phase model provides a comprehensive description of bolted joints: from design and the tightening process to embedding and relaxation behavior, all the way to long-term resistance to loosening.
It provides design transparency regarding loss of preload—and demonstrates how multifunctional screw-locking elements, such as the NSK washer, function in a design-oriented, preventive, and reactive manner.
