Stainless Steel Corrosion Resistance

Increasing corrosion loads require robust verification tests on the actual fastener. Stainless steel components are often evaluated solely based on the corrosivity classes specified in ISO 12944, a standard for coatings that can serve only as a general guide for stainless steel.

Tested corrosion resistance of the structural component

The corrosion resistance of NSK-N was therefore tested on the component at the Institute for Corrosion Protection in Dresden, an independent testing laboratory. Resistance to pitting corrosion in accordance with DIN EN ISO 15158 and to intergranular corrosion in accordance with ASTM A262 was verified. What matters is not the alloy, a PREN value, or the salt spray test duration achieved, but only the actual tested condition of the stainless steel component.
